Integrate AI Only When It Creates Real Value
Using AI to follow a trend adds cost and complexity; begin with a case that simpler rules cannot solve as effectively.
Omar Alalwi Article
Adding AI to a system without a clear business benefit turns it into extra cost and complexity. Some reports, for example, can be produced through queries and deterministic rules without a language model.
Start with a use case that creates value difficult to achieve through traditional methods, such as risk analysis across many changing signals. Define how quality, cost, and impact will be measured, and which decisions still require human review.
Set usage limits, including maximum token and context budgets, choose the most suitable model rather than automatically choosing the strongest, and avoid overengineering. The useful question is not “Where can we add AI?” but “Which problem deserves it, and is the result better than a simpler solution?”
