Broaden Your Professional Experience
Different products and domains
Omar Alalwi Article
Years on one product can provide deep knowledge of its lifecycle, users, and operation, but may limit experience to one class of problems. Moving across e-commerce, delivery, financial, or enterprise systems, for example, exposes a professional to different constraints and decision models.
Breadth does not mean changing jobs on a fixed schedule, nor is staying for a long time inherently wrong. Ask what you are learning now: is your responsibility growing, and are you encountering a new scale, domain, or team? Sometimes breadth can be built within the same organization through another project, a cross-cutting role, or open-source contribution.
Choose a move to close a clear learning gap, not from boredom alone. Keep one domain or skill in which you build distinctive depth, then add adjacent experiences that improve your ability to connect ideas. The goal is not a résumé full of movement, but a record of varied problems solved responsibly with an impact you can explain.
