Evaluate Your Skills against Market Expectations

Years of experience are not enough; compare your actual abilities with the role and identify gaps that need deliberate development.

A job's requirement list may look long, but it often combines the capabilities of one complete role rather than separate technologies that must all be mastered equally. In one Java full-stack example, the list covered REST APIs, authentication, SQL, Linux, clean code, teamwork, performance, security, API design, architecture, and scalability.

Instead of dismissing the list as impossible or accepting it without question, understand the required depth in each area and compare it with your actual experience. If you have several years of experience and most fundamentals are still distant, your learning plan may need an update.

Requirements should not become a way to discourage applicants or combine several jobs into one underpaid role. At the same time, being honest about skill gaps is more useful than blaming the market alone. Choose the role you want, build a skills map, and demonstrate progress through reviewable projects.
