Why Every Student Needs a University Email
A university email proves eligibility for educational programs that make otherwise costly learning and professional tools accessible.
Omar Alalwi Article
A university email is more than a way to communicate with the institution. It proves a student's eligibility for educational programs offered by many technology companies. Depending on the service, country, and university, these can include development, design, collaboration, cloud, and learning tools such as GitHub Student Developer Pack and educational plans from Microsoft, JetBrains, Figma, and Notion.
Using these tools while studying gives students practical experience with technologies they are likely to encounter at work. Universities should therefore treat academic email as part of their learning infrastructure, not as a secondary service.
An institution can provide email through programs for educational organizations, its own infrastructure, or a specialist provider. The important part is to prioritize the service, explain its benefits to students, and verify each program's current eligibility terms because they can change over time.
