Invest in Local Engineering before Buying a Ready Solution

Local companies sometimes buy sensitive systems such as digital wallets from external vendors. The decision may be appropriate in some cases, but it deserves a fair comparison with investing in strong local engineering capability.

The challenge is not necessarily a lack of talent. Skilled engineers may avoid local roles when compensation, work environment, and growth opportunities do not match their expectations, moving instead to external markets. The company then sees only a limited portion of the available expertise.

Buying a solution does not remove the need for internal understanding. Integration, security, compliance, operations, and change still need capable owners. The decision should compare total cost, vendor dependency, knowledge transfer, and the ability to evolve the system for years—not only purchase price and launch date.

Investing in a local team, or in a hybrid model that guarantees knowledge transfer and ownership, may be more sustainable than permanent dependence on engineering capability the company does not hold internally.
